The Weathering Process

The figures and diagrams below illustrate and summarize some of the key elements involved in the weathering of rocks and minerals.  They serve to demonstrate the inter-relationship of the processes of oxidation and reduction, hydration and dehydration and the control of pH.  The outcomes of these processes determine if and how we can use geochemistry to detect mineralisation and the sampling and analytical strategies that we might employ to detect geochemical anomalism in a terrain.
